The North Carolina Contest Group was formed in June of 2005 by
WZ4C (ex KB4FWN) Bradley Scronce, and WZ4I (ex KB4QLZ) Mark Harrison. Our objective was to form a group of local amateur radio operators whom share a similar interest in operating in a number of the contest on the HF, VHF/UHF bands. Our plans include working these contest from our homes, from public areas, and from the wilderness areas of western North Carolina.

By far, the most popular contest in the United States is the A.R.R.L Field Day event held annually on the 4th full weekend of each June. During this event, thousands of radio amateurs are on-the-air, making as many contacts in a set time frame, sometimes under the most adverse conditions. The purpose of this contest is to help prepare the radio amateur to setup, and utilize their equipment under, less than ideal conditions, in the event of an actual emergency, where radio communications need to be established.
